TOOLS

Everything I mention
in our sessions

A reference page for the tools that come up most often. If I recommended something in a session and you want to find it again, it's here.

AI CHAT TOOLS

AI chat tools speak back to you in German while understanding what you write in English. That makes them ideal for crosstalk practice between sessions, for asking questions about words you heard, or for getting a German explanation of something without switching back to English.

ChatGPT

The most widely used AI assistant. Responds naturally in German at any level you specify. Good for crosstalk, vocabulary questions, and getting example sentences in context.

YOUTUBE TOOLS

IMMERSION PLATFORMS

Claude

Anthropic's AI assistant. Particularly strong at nuanced explanations and longer conversations. Useful for in-depth discussions about German concepts without leaving your immersion mindset.

Migaku

A browser extension and app that adds interactive vocabulary tools to YouTube, Netflix, and websites. Create flashcards from subtitles and review them with spaced repetition. Supports German.

FLASHCARDS (SRS)

HABBIT TRACKING

LingQ

Built by polyglot Steve Kaufmann, influenced by Krashen. A reading and listening platform that tracks words across real content. Good for building comprehension through graded exposure.

LINGQ.COM

Anki

A flashcard app based on spaced repetition — it schedules reviews at the right moment so you remember words long-term with minimal effort. Most effective after you already have a feel for a word through input. Free and open source.

TimeCap

The Android equivalent. Track your daily input sessions and review your progress over time. Consistency is the single most important factor in immersion.

Streaks

A habit tracking app for iOS that keeps you consistent through visual streaks. Set a daily German immersion goal and watch it build. Simple, effective, and satisfying to maintain.
